Grocer Gift Pay It Forward

We face the very real possibility that half of our population will experience some level of food insecurity this year, with 3.7 million Australian households having experienced moderate to severe food insecurity in the last 12 months.

Recent cost of living pressures have caused many people to experience food insecurity for the first time.

As an alternative to traditional food relief our markets exist to provide community members with dignity, choice and nutrition, where they can shop for fresh, high-quality and culturally relevant fruit and vegetables of their choosing, at affordable prices.

Since we first rolled out our Grocer Gift Program in 2020 we have generated almost $50,000 in Grocer Gift Cards, distributed via 2500 individual vouchers to people in need.

And now through our Grocer Gift Pay It Forward program you can give the gift of fruit and vegetables to those experiencing food insecurity.

All donations we receive will be converted into Grocer Gift Cards for our community members to spend on fruit and vegetables of their choosing

Based on shopping habits at our markets we have found $20 buys fruit and veg for one person, $50 buys fruit and veg for one family, and $500 buys fruit and veg for 25 people or 10 families!

When you make a donation for yourself or on someone’s behalf you will receive Thank You Card which you can provide to the lucky gift recipient you are buying for (or just keep it for yourself!)!

When you buy a Grocer Gift Card for someone else via our Pay It Forward campaign, you are making a tax-deductible donation to The Community Grocer. At the end of the 2023 financial year, you will receive a tax receipt.
