ABOUT US

The Community Grocer is a not-for-profit social enterprise and registered charity with DGR status. Our mission is to improve access to fresh, affordable and nutritious produce by running weekly fruit and vegetables markets to support healthy connected Victorian communities.

THE ROLE

Expressions of Interest are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are interested in an opportunity to join the Board of Directors for The Community Grocer as Chairperson. 

This is an excellent development opportunity to lead the expansion of The Community Grocer and to contribute to healthier more connected communities across Melbourne and Victoria. The organisation is an exciting phase of business consolidation and strategic decision making to maintain and expand our impact.

The Board is looking for individuals who have demonstrated experience, knowledge and interest in the following:

  • Community development / not for profit leadership

  • Fundraising

  • Business Development

The Board of Directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of The Community Grocer. To that end it:

  • Determines how The Community Grocer will carry out its mission through planning

  • Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight

  • Recruits, orients, and develops board members

  • Hires and evaluates the performance of the General Manager

  • Evaluates its performance and overall performance in achieving the mission

  • Establishes policies for the effective management of The Community Grocer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and promote The Community Grocer’s vision and mission

  • Be familiar with The Community Grocer’s programs, policies, and operations

  • Comply with responsibilities as outlined in the Authorities Matrix 

  • Attend and Chair board meetings and appropriate sub-committee meetings

  • Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings

  • Strictly adhere to confidentiality policies
